Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response. If I've missed out on some previous discussions on authorship I'd be happy to hear about them.

You're right projects do tend to have directors. In the case of DH projects they also tend to have designers, research assistants, data analyists, etc. And these people can be credited as in films. Many projects if not most do this already with a "Project Team" or "About" page. The problem - and its a very niche problem - is in terms of the academic article about DH projects, which have not been around for long.

As far as I can see, DH is the only community that doesn't have a convention for how to deal with this issue, hence the silo'd approach. Zotero for example, doesn't even seem to have a way to add a "webpage", let alone the various roles people might have in such a project. That to me suggests a need for some DH-specific discussion.

Interesting article. Can't help feeling that decades of humanities scholarship into the nature and subversion of the author is being ignored by this silo approach to practicalities. Projects tend to have Directors not authors. So do films (leaving aside the 'auteur' for now). Films have long credit lists, presumably mainly of interest as evidence of participation within the industry. Suggest you pursue digital humanities project as 'production' combined with a healthy dose of authorship theory.
